Our
Story
Growing up, I felt discounted in the questions that I asked. I recognized that many adults wouldn’t take questions seriously if they were posed by a child. Einstein once said that everything in the known universe can be explained to a six-year-old. If you can’t, then there’s a good chance you don’t understand it yourself. There is a lot that I am still learning and relearning every day.
When I went to Northern Arizona University, I immediately started working for the Department of Astronomy and Physics as a cataloger, assuming all the research into a specific category, the N-Stars Catalogue. When the grant money dried up, we bought a single Domino's pizza and a 2-liter bottle of soda. I recognized that I wasn’t the best academically, and I should probably change careers to avoid starving when I graduated.
I switched to Hotel and Restaurant Management and graduated with a degree in Restaurant Operations, completing two internships at incredible restaurants—one in Chicago and one in Boston. It was because I had the astronomy work on my resume that I got the internships; I was able to leverage one skill for another. This led me down an incredible path, ultimately leading to my own coffee shop in an outpatient orthopedic surgery center. I became the coffee guy that everyone came to talk to. Every day, someone would come to tell me that they wished they had done the things they were planning to do when they retired, when they were younger and in better health. After hearing this, sometimes three times a day, it got into my head, creating a sense of urgency. In 2015, we sold all our possessions and got two one-way tickets to Sri Lanka, and it took 22 months for us to come home. Because I was able to cook an provide for people in our travels, it opened incredible opportunities for us. I have felt gratitude from around the world.
In 2018, after living back in the United States for several months, I started this company. I had been working for Detours American West, a tour company out of Phoenix. I wanted to move back to Flagstaff, and I saw a niche I could fit into with private tours. It’s crazy how time flies. I have so many incredible stories and experiences that make me smile every day. I feel truly blessed and have so much gratitude for all the people and the work that have come together to make this dream a reality.
